Shocking Confirmation of Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa’s Causes of Death

In a recent press conference held on March 7, the chief medical examiner, Dr. Heather Jarrell, confirmed the tragic circumstances surrounding the deaths of acclaimed actor Gene Hackman and his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa.
Gene Hackman passed away at the age of 95 due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, a condition that significantly impacted his health. Meanwhile, his wife, Betsy Arakawa, aged 65, died of Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a disease recognized for its severe respiratory symptoms.
Dr. Jarrell shared vital information during the press conference, elucidating the timeline of events leading to their untimely deaths. Betsy Arakawa’s death was attributed to natural causes, with her Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome effectively confirmed through autopsy and laboratory testing. Dr. Jarrell disclosed, “The manner of death is natural.”
She elaborated on the findings from the autopsy, stating, “There were no findings of trauma internally or externally.” Testing concluded positive for Hantavirus in the clinical lab, marking this the only infectious cause present. Other tests for respiratory viruses, including Covid-19 and influenza, returned negative.
As for Gene Hackman, his passing was related to conditions stemming from heightened blood pressure and heart disease. Dr. Jarrell explained, “The cause of death for Mr. Gene Hackman, aged 95 years, is hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with Alzheimer’s disease as a significant contributory factor.”
The autopsy findings reflected a grim reality, demonstrating no immediate signs of trauma while revealing severe heart disease and complications related to his age. The examination of his brain showed advanced Alzheimer’s disease, alongside chronic high blood pressure results observed during laboratory testing.
Highlighting the tragic timeline, Dr. Jarrell conveyed that Gene and Betsy likely succumbed to their conditions a week apart. Her statement hinted at the emotional gravity of their separation in life, stating, “Mr. Hackman’s initial pacemaker data revealed cardiac activity on February 17,” indicating he probably passed around February 18, whereas Betsy was last known to be alive on February 11.
As the investigation into their deaths continues, local authorities, including Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza, stated that the case remains “open.”
